Infection, and First Fill

Last night, I lifted my shirt, as one of the wounds was annoying me, and my daughter just said Wow Mum, you need to see a doctor. The top right hand wound was red, and raised up slightly. I squeezed very gently and green liquid wept from it. I cleaned and wiped the wound with Isopropyl Alcohol.

I phoned Chris who is in Sydney, and he said to call the hospital, who then called Prof. O'Brien who, then called me. So into Paul's Surgery I went this morning, he has checked the wound, and said everything will be fine, I did the right thing by wiping it with the alcohol wipe.

He also said I may as well have my first fill, as I was due next week. It went very smoothly, he had a little trouble finding the port, and just put in a longer needle. He has put in 1ml, taking the total to 4ml.
I want to do this slowly, it's a lifestyle change not a horse race.  So I am glad he is taking my journey gently.

Also, they weighed me on their scales today, I have lost 6kgs ( 13.2 pounds) since May 10th. I am on the beginning of my 4th week today. I have to admit, that the weight loss is with no exercise whatsoever due to trouble with another one of my wounds.

I was very happy!

So on the drive home from the Surgery, I purchased an Elliptical trainer

I wonder what the next 4 weeks will have in store, with one fill, one on the way, and more exercise?

I fly Interstate on business for 4 days from tomorrow, so I apologise in advance if my posts are thin on the ground.

Have a great day!

Ruth

  5. Glad to hear your wound will heal well.
Congrats on the weight loss so far, way to go, and just because you have not yet done a lot of exercise doesn't mean it is not your victory. You are the one that has been making the great food choices.

  6. Hi Andrew,

The 6kgs is at the tail end of the 3rd week. I think I'd be doing damage losing that much in a week.
Thanks so much for your comments everyone, I am not sure what is 'standard', but there were moments when I was so lost, your support, comments and blogs keep me sane ( well almost sane) :))

  10. I love my elliptical. Lotta work with no impact. Right now walking and running hurts my knees. Maybe after I drop some weight, I'll give it a try again. Glad your fill went well and your incision isn't infected. Win - Win.
